| Blutkuppe
and Tinkas
In the warm morning light
we drive through the dry river
bed of the Swakop towards
the cliffy moon landscape
with fascinating views. The
Namib is the home of several
plants and animals which only
survived in this unique climate
of the Namib desert next to
the Atlantic ocean. Through
secluded gravel roads we reach
the Blutkuppe and Tinkas plain.
Grandiose rocks build the
background for wide open grasslands,
a paradise not only for photographers
but for all. Depending on
the time, we drive back through
Gemsbok-Water and Ganab to
the seaport Walvis Bay and
arrive in Swakopmund in the
late afternoon.
Kuiseb, Dune 7 and
historical settlements from
colonial times
From Swakopmund we drive towards
thee south and enjoy the view
of the Namib desert in the
warm morning light. We drive
along the legendary Dune 7
and the Kuiseb water treatment
plant to the inland boulder
fields. Endemic giant trees
grown because of the ground
water of the dry river bed
and their green treetops give
a wonderful contrast to the
red dunes in the background.
We pass secluded settlements
of the Topnaars and reach
the desert research center
Gobabeb as well as Mirabib.
We enjoy a
nice picnic under the shadow
of a tree with fascinating
views over the Namib landscapes
and later on pass Bakenkop,
Amichab, Gauab and Hotsas
where we can watch game. On
our way back to Swakopmund
we discover the unique flora
of the Namib desert, like
the Welwitschia Mirabilis
which only exists in the Namib
desert.
